Fantastic Filipino at Filistix

Filistix at ECHA
Filistix started life as a Filipino food cart that was so popular with students that they eventually spawned into multiple permanent kiosks on the University of Alberta and Grant MacEwan campuses. They have several items on their menu that are always available such as The Classic – Chicken Adobo, listed by Filistix as the national dish of the Philippines consisting of roasted chicken that is finished with a tangy soy, garlic and chilli sauce, and is served with jasmine rice and Filistix’s signature slaw. The chicken in The Classic was lightly seasoned, juicy and moist, while the tangy soy, garlic and chilli sauce work well together without any single of these flavours dominating and working in perfectly harmony.  Their signature slaw is surprisingly refreshing and slightly sweet with shredded cabbage dressed with sesame soy balsamic vinaigrette and topped with slivered almonds and dried cranberries.

The Classic
Their other mainstay, The South Pacific – roasted chicken drizzled with a sauce made from coconut milk, curry, ginger, garlic and chillies – has a mild curry and ginger taste and a fantastically prominent coconut taste.

Filistix’s dishes come in two sizes, a snack and a large size, with the large being enough for almost two meals. Their food is flavourful and a refreshing reprieve from many chain restaurants on the University of Alberta campus. With a Filistix frequent customer card, a handful of visits could land you a free meal, making Filistix is an inexpensive option to eating on campus and great addition to the monotony of the usual fast food chains found on a university campus.
