Cinnamon Buns from Yesteryear

Tuck Shop Tent
Last year, the female human took me to Alumni Weekend at the University of Alberta, since she graduated from there once upon a time in a land far far away….  OK, maybe she’s not THAT old, but she certainly is compared to Moo!

She wanted to try the Tuck Shop Cinnamon Buns, as at the time, she and @thepolishviking were on a quest to find the best cinnamon buns in Edmonton. Located on North Campus in Quad, the tent was open and served cinnamon buns for Friday and Saturday only. When we approached Quad, the heavenly and unmistakable smell of warm, fresh baked cinnamon buns filled the air.

The buns themselves were large and cost a Loonie and change. They were bursting with a sweet cinnamon taste, light, fluffy and not too saucy, just the way I liked them. They were so incredibly moolicious that I went back on Saturday for another. During my visit to the Tuck Shop Tent, we spoke with many alumni and staff that reminisced about the days when the cinnamon buns were still sold on campus, both in the Tuck Shop until 1970, as well as in Central Academic Building in the 80’s.

Alumni Weekend is creeping up on us again Friday, September 21 and Saturday, September 22, and I plan on returning for another delightful and mootastic cinnamon bun. Particularly since I’m too lazy to attempt to make my own, even though the University of Alberta has thoughtfully provided the recipe online, including an instructional video.

If you enjoy cinnamon buns, nostalgia, and have a $1.50 to spare, get yourself down to the Tuck Shop Tent this Friday between 10am – 6pm or Saturday between 9am – 4pm, you’ll only regret it if you miss out!
