Swift Lunch at Viphalay Laos and Thai Restaurant

Pad Thai
Viphalay Laos and Thai Restaurant took over the spot that was the once long standing La Tapas Spanish Restaurant, and most recently defunct Karma Indian Cuisine. Located in what looks like a converted house on 99 Ave, right across from Starbucks Omega, the store at which I’m Mooscot at, this is the second location for this particular venture, with their first located right across from Little Italy.

I went there one lunch to meet some lovely friends of mine who work downtown. The interior is mostly the same as before, including the furniture, but added their own little touches, such as putting spices into the glass-covered tables. Their lunch menu is small and compact, making the choice a fairly easy one.

Green Curry Combo
We order pad thai and a green curry combo with chicken and coconut rice, which is delivered swiftly. The pad thai has a nice crispy crunch from the vegetables and peanuts, is extremely flavorful, but could have benefited from less sauce. The curry is mildly spicy and sweet at the same time. The combination of textures of soft potatoes, crispy carrots, and tender, well-seasoned chicken is well balanced. The only problem with the dish is the coconut rice is a bit too mushy and disintegrates when mixed with the curry.

Service here is quick and the food takes little time to appear at the table. The staff are friendly, the food is overall enjoyable, and I would definitely return for another meal.
